Bare-metal servers

A bare-metal server is one physical machine running one operating system — a single Windows Server or a single Linux server. Simple and direct: one box, one job. It's the right answer when a workload genuinely needs a whole machine to itself, or when a team wants the simplest possible setup.

Virtualization & hypervisors

A hypervisor is a thin layer installed on the bare metal instead of a single OS. It lets one physical box run many independent virtual servers at once — some Windows, some Linux — sharing the hardware safely. Fewer boxes, instant snapshots and rollback, easy backup and restore, and a running server can be moved to other hardware if a machine fails.

Why Proxmox first? It's open-source with no per-CPU licence fees, and since VMware's licensing rose sharply it has become the default choice for most UAE businesses. If you're already standardised on VMware or Hyper-V, we'll build and run that instead — the right stack is decided during sizing, never sold to you up front.

Your Data, On Your Own Hardware, In The UAE

An on-site server means your data physically resides in the UAE, on hardware you own and control — which supports data-residency expectations under UAE frameworks such as the PDPL and NESA / DESC guidance. QSN pairs every server with a disciplined 3-2-1 backup strategy, so your data is both sovereign and protected against loss. The things businesses ask us before commissioning or handing over a server. Straight answers — no jargon walls.

Does Quick Surf Network sell servers?
No — QSN is a managed service provider, not a hardware reseller, and we do not keep servers in stock. The hardware is always yours: you either procure it directly, or we source it for you through our distribution partners and bill it through at the quoted price. What QSN provides is the engineering — sizing, building, configuring, securing and then maintaining the server for its whole service life. You own the asset; we keep it running.
What is the difference between a bare-metal server and a virtualized server?
A bare-metal server is one physical machine running a single operating system — for example one Windows Server or one Linux server. Virtualization installs a thin layer called a hypervisor onto that same physical machine, which then lets it run several independent virtual servers at once, each with its own operating system, all sharing the hardware safely. Virtualization means fewer physical boxes, instant snapshots and rollback, far easier backup and restore, and the ability to move a running server onto other hardware if a machine fails. QSN builds and manages both.
Which hypervisor or server operating system do you recommend?
It depends on the workload and the team. For most businesses today we lead with Proxmox VE — it is open-source, has no per-CPU licence fees, and has become the default choice since VMware licensing rose sharply. We also fully support VMware vSphere/ESXi for organisations already standardised on it, and Microsoft Hyper-V for Windows-centric environments. On the guest side we deploy and manage Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL/Rocky) as needed. The right stack is decided during sizing — not sold to you up front.
Can you build a server from scratch, or only maintain existing ones?
Both. We design and build servers from bare metal — sizing the CPU, ECC memory, RAID or ZFS storage, redundant power and out-of-band management, then racking, cabling, installing the operating system or hypervisor, hardening it, burn-in testing, and handing it over documented. We also adopt servers someone else installed: we audit the build, correct what needs correcting, and bring it under a managed-maintenance agreement.
What does managed server maintenance include?
A managed-maintenance (AMC/SLA) agreement covers proactive monitoring, operating-system and firmware patching, RAID and drive-health checks, backup verification, capacity and performance review, and security hardening — plus scheduled preventive maintenance and a defined response time for incidents. It runs on top of QSN's standard 24/7 monitoring and 4-hour response SLA. Business agreements are scoped and priced per environment after a survey.
Do you maintain the physical server room, not just the servers?
Yes. On-premises server-room maintenance covers the physical layer around the hardware: thermal and airflow checks, UPS and battery health, PDU load balancing, rack dressing and cable management, dust and cleaning, and basic environmental monitoring. This keeps the room that houses your servers healthy, not just the servers inside it. Our current focus is on-site client server rooms.
Can my data stay inside the UAE?
Yes — that is one of the main reasons businesses keep servers on-premises rather than in a foreign cloud. Rack server or tower server — which do I need?
A tower server looks like a large desktop PC and suits a single office or branch with no dedicated server room — quiet, no rack required. A rack server (1U, 2U or 4U) mounts into a standard 19-inch cabinet and suits a proper server room where you are consolidating several workloads or planning to grow. We recommend the form factor during sizing based on your workloads, space, cooling and expansion plans — never by default.
